Get Your Conservatory Ready for Autumn

The temperatures have dropped, and we’ve already had a taste of the winter ahead with some parts of the UK being battered by wind and rain earlier this week. All of which serves as a reminder that we now need to start getting our homes autumn and winter ready. And never more so than if you have a conservatory.

With the bank holiday weekend ahead of us, it’s the perfect time to start preparing for what needs to be done and so here’s our quick checklist and reminder:

Check your gutters. Is there any damage and are they clear of leaves and dirt? You’ll probably need to check them again as we move into autumn and the leaves start to fall, but with increasing chances of rain, it’s important to make sure they are fully functional now.

Check for any external damage. Broken or cracked panes of glass, rotten or damaged wood all needs to be replaced before winter. Some of this you may be able to do yourself, or you may need to get someone in to help. Tradesmen will be getting busier now, so book that appointment soon.

Clean the outside. You may find that there’s been a build up of algae or dirt on the outside panes. Not the nicest job in the world but you’ll need to clean all the panes, including the roof. However, do make sure you can do so safely.

With the outside checked, it’s time to check the inside. Again, look for any damage, particularly with an older wooden structure. Rot and pealing paint all need to be dealt with if you don’t want them to have got worse through the winter. Are there any leaks? Or any particular areas where you struggle with condensation?

Check your blinds. Your blinds will be an essential part of keeping your conservatory warm during winter. Do they need a wash, and are they thick enough to stop heat loss? Perhaps even more importantly, do you still like them enough to spend another winter with them?

It’s easy to forget how drafty a conservatory can be while we’re still enjoying late summer weather, but now is the time to think about what measures you can take to stop both your conservatory and the rest of the house becoming too cold. Draft excluders, thick floor rugs, portable heaters or even an underfloor heating system may help.

Replace your conservatory roof! Don’t panic if that sounds a bit drastic, because it really isn’t! We can replace your conservatory roof in a couple of days and install a stylish replacement roof which will provide high levels of thermal insulation while requiring barely any maintenance. So, you can put away your ladder, your paint brush and DIY tools once and for all. Our replacement conservatory roofs are affordable, super easy to install and will give you a conservatory that is warm and snug all winter long!

So, as we look forward to crisp autumn leaves, frosty mornings and curling up with a good book on a dark evening, why not give us a call. We’ll get your conservatory autumn and winter ready in no time at all.

How big is your footprint?

How big is your footprint?

What most people don’t realise is that the biggest source of the carbon footprint you leave, is your home and household emissions. According to Nesta, “domestic energy use accounts for more than 21 % of UK greenhouse gas emissions each year.” The Office for National Statistics claim that households have been the single biggest emitter of greenhouse gases in the UK since 2015 and account for almost 28% of the UK’s total emissions.

Is the rain getting you down?

Is the rain getting you down?

Yup, it’s getting a bit boring now. After all, with summer travel still difficult and all the challenges of the last 18 months, we do all really need some warm sunny weather and some long balmy days spent in the garden.

As the sun finally comes out after weeks of rain, there’s been a collective sigh of relief across the UK. Summer is here at last and if we can’t go on holiday, we can at least enjoy some long sunny days. But that said, if you’re a traditional conservatory owner, things might look a little different.

Stay or sell?

Stay or sell?

There is no doubt that Covid 19 has changed many lives for good. In the space of 12 months working from home has become the norm with Zoom and online conferencing becoming second nature, and many large employers taking the decision to permanently downsize office space. Although the country is gradually re-opening, it is unlikely that working practices and lives will ever completely return to how things were before March 2020.
