Just a few steps to conservatory ceiling installation

If you’re thinking of fitting an insulated conservatory ceiling you probably have a number of questions. How long will it take? What’s involved? Is my conservatory suitable? The good news is, that so long as your conservatory is in good condition, installation of a new ceiling will be quick and efficient. And in this post, we’ll guide you through everything you need to know and do, in order to get started.

Checking your conservatory is in good condition

Make sure your conservatory isn’t leaking. Although a 2Hot2Cold ceiling won’t be damaged by a small amount of water, you should ensure that your roof is leak free before you book your installation.

In exceptional circumstances, where very small leaks are present, our installers can temporarily repair the roof from the inside using silicone gel. But please note that 2Hot2Cold can’t take responsibility for this repair and our warranty will not cover it.

If you have concerns about a leak, we recommend you get it properly repaired by a glazing company or conservatory company before we start work.

Check that your roof panels are well fitted and form a level and uniform surface which doesn’t lift up.

Ensure your roof joists are of equal depth to allow a level ceiling to be fitted. This is particularly important if your conservatory is a self-build, so please check that it has not been built using different sized joists.

If you have any doubt about the condition of your conservatory, please email us photographs. We can carry out a free survey to put your mind at rest. In our experience, a conservatory is unlikely to be in good condition if it’s 15+ years old and hasn’t been maintained.

If the conservatory is in a poor condition when we arrive on site and we cannot install your ceiling, we will not be able to return your deposit.

How long will it take?

The majority of conservatory ceiling installations are completed within just one day. But once we have the size and specs of your space, we’ll give you an estimate of how long your particular installation will take.

Do I need planning permission and will it change the structure of my conservatory?

2Hot2Cold use high-quality insulation and paneling materials that are extremely light and will not affect your ceiling structure. It’s super slim (only 10mm) and slots between the bars of your conservatory roof, with the PVC-U panels fitting across the bars. As the ceiling is installed internally and does not change the external height or aesthetics of your conservatory, planning permission is not required.

What will my insulated ceiling look like?

The exterior of your conservatory will look exactly the same unless you have a glass roof which is overlooked in which case, you may want to opt for us to install a white lining that sits between the clear glass and the PVC-U ceiling. The lining is aesthetically more pleasing, as opposed to ‘seeing’ the insulation. Depending on the shape and size of your conservatory, please allow up to 2 days for installing a ceiling with lining. From the inside, your ceiling will look clean and stylish and give your conservatory a whole new lease of life.

What about damp?

A U-PVC conservatory ceiling requires an inch gap around the perimeter of the insulation to allow breathing space between the bars. When installing a 2Hot2Cold ceiling on a timber-framed conservatory our fitters install air vents into internal ceiling support joists. These air vents allow air to freely circulate between the conservatory roof and the ceiling panels. Airflow is necessary because timber frames allow heat to be absorbed into the ceiling cavity and this can build up into hotspots. Air vents allow this heat to be evenly distributed across the entire ceiling cavity preventing a build-up of heat in one area.

What if I get a leak after you’ve fitted my ceiling?

If leaks occur after we’ve installed your ceiling this isn’t a problem as the roof is easily accessible and repairs can be made. Glass panels can be replaced in the normal way from the outside.
